The Evolution of Black Neighborhoods: Fifty Years of Spatial and Economic Mobility

Project Description

Starting from the year 1970, a key inflection point for the Black neighborhood, this project examines the spatial and demographic evolution of predominantly Black neighborhoods in America. With funding and support from the Russell Sage Foundation, this project begins as a historical examination and goes on to address contemporary policy debates around housing, segregation, neighborhood effects, and race. Such research provides a critical foundation to work towards a better understanding of the conditions under which Black neighborhoods flourish and fail, the residential mobility pathways in and out of these neighborhoods, and the consequences of larger policy choices on the Black neighborhood.
