History

The Lewis Center was founded in 1989 with a generous endowment from UCLA alumni Ralph and Goldy Lewis. The center is housed in the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs and charged with the interdisciplinary study of policy issues affecting the Los Angeles region. In 30 years of operation, six directors have each left their mark on the research topics the center focuses on, from labor to immigration to transportation access and land use — with a specific interest on the policy impact on vulnerable populations as a through-line.
