By 2030, one in five Americans will be over the age of 65. Yet parks, which offer critical opportunities for exercise, social connection, and mental restoration, are often designed without this key population in mind. As communities age, ensuring welcoming, safe, and usable parks for older adults is a health and equity imperative. Studies have found older adults derive many benefits from park usage and have clear preferences about public spaces. By identifying successes, challenges, and opportunities for meeting the needs of older adults, this report serves as a starting point to unlock the full potential of MacArthur Park.
