UCLA Data for Democracy: Parks in Los Angeles

Brief
November 2019

To celebrate its 100th anniversary, UCLA has created Data for Democracy, a project for K-12 students to analyze and gather data on critical issues such as access to parks, jobs, and housing in Los Angeles. The Lewis Center partnered with the project to ask critical questions related to access to parks and open spaces.

– Who has access to them and who doesn’t?
– Why do some communities have lots of park space and others have almost none?
– Should there be more parks, and if so, where should they be located?
– What should they be like? What kinds of space should they create?
– What kind of services should they offer?
