Addressing the Travel Needs of Women and Families

Project Description

This project builds on the gender and transit-related work conducted under LA Metro and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation by expanding the scope to transit agencies across the U.S. The work begins with updating the literature review conducted as a part of the LA Metro work to highlight new research on safety, stop, station, and vehicle design, transit fare policy, service frequency and reliability and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on women's transit needs. In partnership with project partners, we will conduct a national survey of transit agencies to inventory existing gender-responsive planning, projects, and data collection efforts. Based on the literature review and survey findings, the team will develop a set of toolkits and guidance documents to help transit agencies with gender-responsive planning. These tools will provide direction on data collection, analysis, and evaluation, planning and implementation, policy and standards, community engagement, and communications.
